Question 1

1. Is a gorilla trekking permit included in the safari price?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The package is designed to include one gorilla trekking permit per person for Volcanoes National Park, subject to availability and confirmation. The standard international visitor permit is USD 1,500 per person. Any applicable eligibility-based discounts will be assessed when preparing the final quotation.

Question 2

2. How difficult is gorilla trekking in Rwanda?

Accepted Answer

Gorilla trekking requires a reasonable level of physical fitness. Treks can involve walking through dense forest, uneven terrain and steep or muddy slopes. The duration varies depending on the location of the assigned gorilla family. Local porters can be arranged at an additional cost to assist with personal belongings and provide support along the route.

Question 3

3. How much time will we spend with the mountain gorillas?

Accepted Answer

Once your group locates the gorilla family, the standard permitted viewing time is one hour. Your park guide will explain the required viewing distances, photography restrictions and conservation rules. Gorilla sightings depend on wildlife movements and cannot be guaranteed.

Question 4

4. What wildlife can we expect to see in Akagera National Park?

Accepted Answer

Akagera is home to lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, leopards and numerous antelope and bird species. The itinerary includes a full-day guided game drive and a boat safari on Lake Ihema, where hippos, waterbirds and other wildlife may be observed. Sightings vary naturally.

Question 5

5. What is the minimum age for gorilla trekking?

Accepted Answer

The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Rwanda is 15 years. Travellers must also comply with the park's health and safety requirements. Families travelling with younger children can enquire about alternative activities.

Question 6

6. How many nights are included, and where will we stay?

Accepted Answer

The safari includes five nights' accommodation: two nights in Akagera National Park, two nights in Kigali and one night near Volcanoes National Park. Accommodation is arranged according to the selected package category, availability and the final confirmed quotation.

Question 7

7. Is transport included throughout the safari?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The package includes private ground transfers and scheduled safari transportation in a suitable 4×4 vehicle with a professional English-speaking driver-guide. Transfers include Kigali International Airport, Akagera National Park, Kigali city and Volcanoes National Park.

Question 8

8. What meals are included in the package?

Accepted Answer

Meals are provided according to the confirmed accommodation and itinerary arrangements. The specific meal plan for each lodge or hotel will be detailed in your final quotation. Drinks, additional meals and personal purchases are excluded unless expressly stated.

Question 9

9. What should I pack for gorilla trekking and the safari?

Accepted Answer

We recommend sturdy waterproof hiking boots, long trousers, long-sleeved clothing, a lightweight rain jacket, gardening-style gloves, insect repellent, sunscreen and a small daypack. Neutral-coloured clothing is suitable for game drives. A reusable water bottle and waterproof protection for cameras and personal belongings are also useful.

Question 10

10. What is the best time of year to visit Rwanda for this safari?

Accepted Answer

Rwanda offers wildlife and gorilla trekking experiences throughout the year. The relatively drier periods, particularly June to September and December to February, are often preferred for trekking. However, rain is possible at any time, and gorilla permits and popular accommodation can sell out during busy travel periods.

Question 11

11. Can this Rwanda safari be customised?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Shikisha Tours and Travel can tailor the itinerary to your travel dates, preferred accommodation standard, group size and interests. Additional nights, upgraded lodges, cultural experiences and other activities may be arranged subject to availability and additional costs.

Question 12

12. How do I book, and what travel documents are required?

Accepted Answer

Submit an enquiry with your preferred travel dates, number of travellers, nationality or residency category and accommodation preferences here > Plan Your Safari. Our team will prepare a quotation and confirm the availability of accommodation and gorilla trekking permits.
